Summary Statement
The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Aging Services (DAS) provides training programs that meet requirements according to job relevance. Staff are required to complete mandatory training at the onset of employment and meet annual training requirements and as directed.
Scope
The objective is to educate employees about the policies and procedures of this department, division, and at the program level. Curriculums may be delivered in the form of virtual independent lessons, videos, practical exercises, policy review, and instructor led courses to be completed within a designated time frame.
Training Descriptions & Definitions
DHS Mandatory Training – DHS Mandatory Training courses are required of all DHS employees, including contractors and interns upon hire and annually thereafter.
Cyber Security Training - The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), Office of Information Technology (OIT) routinely shares tools and training with the workforce designed to assess and improve cybersecurity awareness both at work and at home. This training is being delivered via the DHS/OIT Proofpoint Security Education Platform (formerly, Wombat).
DAS 101 Orientation - New hires will gain an understanding of how the Older American’s Act impacts DAS, increase their knowledge of the totality of the work done at DAS or through the Area Agencies on Aging (AAA).
APS New Worker Training - Introduction to the Adult Protective Services Program following the guidelines of the National Adult Protective Services (NAPSA) 23 Core Competencies. The course will allow participants to understand the primary purpose of the APS program and explore the values and principles that shape it. Participants will review the fundamentals of adult abuse and learn to identify their role and responsibilities in the APS process. Participants will also become familiar with the basic guidelines for referrals and providing services to potential clients.
PGO New Worker Training - The areas covered include the appointment and responsibilities of Public Guardianship, case management requirements to include needs assessments, supportive and surrogate decision making and end of life planning. Participants are also introduced to DAS programs and units as well as software programs frequently used by PGO staff to include, the On-line Directives Information System (ODIS), the Learning Management System (LMS), CONCUR, and the DAS Data Management System (DDS). Outside classwork includes required Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Aging Services (DAS), and Public Guardianship Office (PGO) trainings in the Learning Management System (LMS) and additional reading material to supplement policy and state code.
Certified At Risk Crime Tactics (CACTS) Training – PGO/APS Staff Required (Optional for other Staff) - Sponsored by the Prosecuting Attorney’s Council of Georgia. The Certified At-Risk Adult Crime Tactics Specialist (CACTS) training is provided through the Georgia Department of Human Services Forensic Special Initiatives Unit, GBI Crimes Against Disabled Adults and Elder (CADE) Task Force in cooperation with: Administrative Offices of the Courts of Georgia; Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police; Georgia Bureau of Investigation; Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council; Georgia Public Safety Training Center; Georgia Sheriff’s Association; and the Institute of Continuing Judicial Education. Mission: To equip primary and secondary responders with knowledge and skills to recognize and respond appropriately to at-risk adult crime victims in Georgia as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Georgia SHIP New Worker Training – Georgia SHIP Staff Only. The Georgia SHIP New Worker Training consist of virtual instructor-led Medicare training sessions. Participants learn the basics on Medicare Parts A, B, C and D. This includes Medicare Advantage Plans, Medicare Supplement Insurance, and Prescription Drug Plans.
Online Directives Information System (ODIS) - It is a centralized electronic warehouse of the policies and manuals of the programs and services provided by the DHS.
On-the-Job Training (OJT) – An introductory job-specific skills development program based on operation practices of the work unit developed by each section in collaboration with the Training Specialist and the DHS Human Resources. OJT is documented through a checklist and stored in the training file of the employee, contractors, volunteers, or intern.
Learning Management System (LMS)- A designated training platform used to register for virtual independent lessons, videos, practical exercises, policy review and instructor led courses.
Overview
The DHS Mandatory Training is provided and maintained by Office of Enterprise Development through a Learning Management System.
The Course Catalog will be provided twice a year by DAS. It will include a list of all courses and classes offered with an overview, hours, target audience, and pre-requisite training requirements. This will include site location, enrollment information and instructor name and title.
All staff have access to the DAS Intranet, LMS, and ODIS where they have access to policies, training manuals, updates, calendars, and course descriptions.
Staff must either be in a DHS office or on the DHS Virtual Provider Network (VPN) in order to access the Intranet. |
All new workers, volunteers and interns will complete the New Worker On-the-Job Training (OJT) in accordance with New Worker Training Procedures.
DAS Training Requirements
All employees will be required to complete training as outlined in the Training Matrix in accordance with their job responsibilities.
Staff may be required to complete additional training by their Sections Managers.
All members of the Division will be trained on the policies and procedures on cyber security. Quarterly training is required.
Training records will be maintained by the Hiring Manager, Training and Development Specialists, and LMS.
Applicable training by outside sources may be utilized for training requirements determined by each section.
All DAS Staff will:

Complete the New Worker OJT.

Complete DHS Mandatory Training via LMS.

Complete Cyber Security Online Training.

Attend DAS 101 Orientation within 3 months of hire or the next available class offered.

Attend CACTS through supervisor approval

Attend additional training programs offered with supervisory approval.
Access to Services (AtS) Staff will:

Attend additional training programs as assigned.

Georgia SHIP Staff will be enrolled and complete the Georgia SHIP New Worker Training.
Adult Protective Services (APS) Staffwill:

Be enrolled and complete APS New Worker Training within 3 months of hire or next available class offered.

Attend CACTS as required.

Forensic Special Initiatives Unit (FSIU) Staff will:
