Summary Statement

The Forensics Special Initiatives Unit (FSIU) or designee will facilitate the At-Risk Adult Multi-Departmental Team.

Basic Considerations

The purpose of the At-Risk Adult Multi-Departmental Team is to provide a forum for professionals from multiple backgrounds to meet, learn more about other agencies, and participate in joint efforts to protect at-risk adults, prevent victimization of at-risk adults and support the prosecution of perpetrators of at-risk adult abuse crimes.

Participating Agencies

The At-Risk Adult Multi-Departmental Team will be facilitated by the FSIU. FSIU will invite representatives from agencies depending on the topic being discussed. Agencies may include but are not limited to:

  • Department of Human Services (DHS) Division of Aging Services (DAS)

    • Access to Services (AtS)

    • Adult Protective Services (APS)

    • Livable Communities (LC)

    • Program Integrity (PI)

    • State Long-Term Care Ombudsman (SLTCO)

  • DHS Commissioner’s Office

  • DHS Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS)

  • DHS Office of the Inspector General (OIG)

  • Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD)

  • Department of Community Health (DCH)

    • Healthcare Facility Regulation (HFR)

  • Department of Public Health (DPH)

  • Georgia Senior Legal Hotline

  • Governor’s Office for Children and Families (GOCF)

  • Office of Disability Services Ombudsman

  • Social Security Administration

  • State Board of Pardons and Paroles

  • Professional Organizations that serve at-risk adults

Scope

The At-Risk Adult MDT will discuss challenges to address the abuse, neglect and exploitation of at-risk adults in Georgia. The MDT will identity obstacles and develop action steps to remove these obstacles.

Meetings

Meetings will be held as needed. The At-Risk Adult MDT is not meant to circumvent other multi-departmental teams. The FSIU will schedule meetings, send reminder emails about scheduled meetings, record meeting notes, and facilitate meetings. Activities of the At-Risk Adult MDT will be determined by a consensus of participating members, not the FSIU.
