Policy
Where the area agency on aging serves as the provider agency, it is responsible for assuring the provision of LTCO services in its service area in accordance with Provider Agency Policy (see II-305). Where the area agency on aging is not the provider agency, the area agency on aging shall support the provision of Ombudsman Representative services in its service area.
Procedures
304.1 Area Agency on Aging responsibilities
The area agency on aging shall:

Support the LTCOP by:
-
Assisting in the development of resources for the operation of the LTCOP, including financial and human resources,
-
Providing opportunities for the LTCOP and other aging and social services organizations to collaborate to promote the health, safety, welfare, and rights of residents,

Making appropriate referrals to the LTCOP,

Promoting awareness of LTCO services to consumers and the general public within the service area,
-
Participating in the LTCOP’s advisory council where applicable.

Supporting the LTCOP in issues advocacy on behalf of residents.

Where an AAA provides LTCO services directly, it must also fulfill the responsibilities of a provider agency (II-305).
